Educational problems today
It is well known fact, that humanist professions are very profitable nowadays. Since childhood a lot of young people suppose this profession to be very attractive. With such an viewpoint they are educated in their families, go to high school, to a institute and finally they begin rearing their own children that way. Cul-de-sac.
Why is it so? What do make people think that engineering sciences have lost their popularity?
There are several motives.
First of all present machinery has got such a high degree of growth that the majority of people is capable of using it without having specialized technological skill. So there is no need for subsequent spreading of technological skill. Humanits use begins prevailing in all aspects of life.
Secondly it is an well known fact that we are in the consumer society. People in it don’t want to work with their hands. They like to depict everything and consume things, but not to make something by themselves. Of course this fact does not affect positively on spreading of engineering education. People are simply not concerned with it.
Thirdly the resource base has got such a level of desolation that we often have no place for work after studying the theory.
Finally a very significant thing is the policy of the state. What professions does it consider as called-for nowadays? We can easily find out it by watching our mass-media. The internet, the television, the radio, the press – what specialities do they promote today? It is easy to prove that they are full of humanist images. Mass-media display us easy life in which there is no place for hard-work, but there are a lot of talks, beautiful scenes and fantasies.
What do we have as a in the issue?
Lack of expert workers in the engineering sphere. There are a lot of philosophers, lawyers, artists, singers, politicians, professors but a few people, able to operate for example a jointer planer. This will lead to a problem situation when we will be needing very simple things which are very important for our comfortable existence.
Besides that our education system is totally destroyed. There is no technical literature of high quality – it is either sold or lost. There is no experienced teachers able to educate worthy personnel working in technical spheres.
Such is the picture. Sad, isn’t it?
Then, there is an adequate question: what should our country do in order to improve the condition? I think that there are several actions to be taken. firstly our country should change its attitude towards technical professions and specialities and theirs future. Then our country should do its best in order to promote technological specialities in mass-media.
And of course, the best way to preserve technological professions is to assign enough means both for the payment for the people who work in this sphere and to the creating an adequate resource base.
